Kezia - Protest the Hero

I'm not a big fan of Metalcore stuff, (The Devil Wears Prada, Atreyu, Bullet For My Valentine), I found most of it to just be really annoying. There's a few exceptions, however. The first Metalcore band I even remotely liked was All That Remains. A little later, I learned about The Human Abstract, and I was surprised to find out that they were actually really good. Especially their first true album, Nocturne. Midheaven, the 2nd album, is so-so, but it sounds a little too mainstream for my tastes. As for Protest the Hero, I wasn't a big fan at first. They were ok, not as good as The Birthday Massacre or anything, but it was a blessing compared to some bands like Atreyu. *shivers* Their first album though, Kezia, really started to grow on me. I started listening to it more and more and now it's probably one of my favorite albums of all time. It's different from a lot of anything "-core" I had heard before. They have almost no screaming/growling, (unlike Between the Buried and Me and All That Remains, where they do almost nothing but scream/growl), and still have the bad ass solo's and guitar riffs. And the most shocking part, also unlike most Metalcore stuff, is THEIR LEAD SINGER DOESN'T SUCK! (I know, shocking, isn't it.) That's what killed most of it for me before. I couldn't stand the singers' voice. But in Protest the Hero, he's really good. And he can make his voice so high pitched that in one of the songs I thought he was a chick! Kezia is truly an amazing album that everyone needs to check out.

Melt-Banana (Again)

Ok this was just weird. At almost the same time, without knowing. Brian and I started listening to Melt-Banana. Whenever I listen to these guys it just makes me feel giddy. And I find it funny how short most of their songs are. Gah... I'm having a bad case of writer's block right now. Can't think of anything. Melt-Banana's awesome, here's some more of their stuff.

God's Money - Gang Gang Dance

After witnessing GGD in Austin on 11/21, I realized just how powerful this album was, though not as electronic or poppy as their newest album (Saint Dymphna) God's Money still retains the neo-tribal and noise elements that fans of similar artists ( such as Black Dice, Raccoo-oo-oon, or High Places) Would surely love.

Nothing and Nowhere - The Birthday Massacre

I discovered these guys recently, I think this summer. At first, I didn't care for them. But about 2 weeks ago, I got the urge to start listening to them again. For some reason, I just loved it. Everything I have by them. Just out of nowhere, they became one of my favorite bands. And this, Nothing and Nowhere, has to be their best album. Looking Glass comes close, but this wins. It's a very interesting sound too. It's like synthy-electronic, but more gloomy, kind of like the Sisters of Mercy without Andrew Eldritch and his insanely deep voice. At least that's what it reminds me of. Whatever. LISTEN TO IT!

Scarling. - Sweet Heart Dealer

My first post. WOOOO! I love Scarling's work. I've been a Jack Off Jill fan for years, but, only recently did I start listening to Scarling. I regret not looking them up. Sweet Heart Dealer is such an amazing album, but what could you expect from Jessicka Fodera? I hope anyone who randomly finds this blog enjoys this.
